Jane A. Harbath Residence, (1991-1995)

The following information was contributed by Jane A. Harbath Morse on October 22,  2021.

1. Jane A Harbath purchased the house in 1991 and was told by the title agency that it was the first transfer they’d seen from a single woman to another single woman.  I then sold it to yet another single woman!  My realtor was the legendary Ruth Brenner.  She agreed that it was a “dollhouse”.

 2.  Most of the stained glass was crafted by my father Fred Harbath.  The large piece in the living room was added by the Rainwater family, repurposed from a church.

3.  I was a young, single professional in my tenure there, but ran with a lively local music crowd.  The back room was a recording studio and the site of many impromptu jam sessions.

 4.  There is a ghost in residence named Tony Coseleto.  He was a local handyman of Italian extraction and planted the grape arbor in the back circa 1920s, likely for homemade wine during prohibition.  He is seldom a bother and, in my opinion, adds value to the house.

Biographical sketch from the book Maps and Directories of Medina County, Ohio dated 1897.

Frank Spellman. Medina County has many sons of whom she feels justly proud, and the subject of this sketch is one of that number. He was born in Montville township, February 7, 1860. The first ten years of his life he spent on the farm with his parents, Azariah and Elizabeth Spellman. In 1870 his parents moved to Medina village where Mr. Spellman attended the public schools.

For several years after leaving school he remained on the farm with his parents, then engaged in the grocery business for three-and-one-half years.

On January 1, 1886, he entered the law office of Hon. C. G. Codding of Medina and began reading law and continued till he was admitted practicing by the Supreme Court of Ohio, March 8, 1888.

On January 1, the following year he opened a law practice in the B.H. Woodblock, on the west side of the public square, Medina, where he has since been located.

Besides his law practice, Mr. Spellman gives special attention to the examination of titles to real estate and has an abstract office in connection with his law office. He is careful, accurate, and reliable as an abstracter. He enjoys a lucrative and steadily increasing practice that has been gained by his energy, perseverance, and thorough and honorable methods of business.
